For a few years now, Ryan at The Matinee has hosted a blogathon: The Blind Spot Series. Everyone put together a list of twelve films you really should see and watch them all over the course of the year. I really don’t have blind spots as much as I am blind with glimmers of light peeking through when it comes to film, so this is going to be pretty great.
Looking over this, I think I have something from everywhere – and if you are a film blogger and see your favourite film here, it’s very likely I took your recommendation. So, tell me what you think of my picks, and then get yourself over to The Matinee and join in!
The Before Trilogy – Atonement – 12 Angry Men – Snatch – The Artist
Blade Runner – The Virgin Suicides – The Nightmare Before Christmas
Taxi Driver – Reservoir Dogs – Hunger – Memento
Oooh, you’ve got some awesome ones on here! The only ones I haven’t seen are 12 Angry Men (That’s on my Blind Spot list too) The “Before” trilogy and Hunger.
Great to hear that! And I know you have 12 Angry Men 😉 I’ve been meaning to see it ever since there was a reference in HIMYM and I saw it in 1001 films, but I needed a push.
I love that your chosen twelve might well be the most recent twelve of anyone participating. You’re in for a fun year, complete with a few of my personal favorites on that list.
Here’s to 2014!
Glad to hear – and yeah, I think I’ll start by watching classics in the making and climb my way to “real” classics. 😀
That is a great list. Snatch is terrific. So are Reservoir Dogs and Memento.
I’m not a huge fan of Nightmare Before Christmas, but I understand its merits. Most of the rest, shamefully, I haven’t seen.
Thank you! I’m looking forward to seeing them all.
Awesome! I’ve seen them all!!! This is a great list and you’re in for a great year at the movies! Taxi Driver is a masterpiece and probably my favorite on your list, but Atonement and Blade Runner are also fantastic!
Great to hear! And good for you, haha! I’m very much looking forward to Taxi Driver. 😉
Haven’t seen Snatch…. shame on you. 😀
Yep, yep, I know. Guess where the idea to see it came from? 😀
Me? 😀
…maybe. 😉
GREAT list, you’re in for a treat!! I still have to see 12 Angry Men and Snatch, but my favourites from the ones you chose are Taxi Driver, Hunger, and Blade Runner. Atonement is achingly beautiful. And the Before films are like a real-life dream.
Good luck Elina, I hope you have fun!!
Thank you so much, Sofia, and I’m so glad to hear that! I can’t even decide where to start, I just want to see them all. 😀
Oooh, Snatch is my number 3 of all time 🙂
I’m very excited to see it 😉
Great list you have here. Some beautiful Tarantino flicks to work through, enjoy!
Thanks! I think I might make marathons out of some of these and watch some more of the director’s work. Yeah, Tarantino and Fincher, I’m talking about you. 😀
😛
Excellent list. I love The Before Trillogy especially so can’t wait for you to review them.
Thank you so much, Lauren!

You do have some good ones on here. 12 Angry Men is a classic. Taxi Driver and Blade Runner are both amazing, as is Reservoir Dogs and The Nightmare Before Christmas is a lot of fun.
I have seen the first two installments of the Before Trilogy, and you’re certainly not the only blogger I’ve seen put any of the films on their blindspot list this year. Before Sunrise is incredible, with a wonderful chemistry between its leads and a solid balance of comedy and drama, and even some interesting questions about just what it means to be in love. Before Sunset doesn’t have as much action but still has the great chemistry and manages to take the series in some interesting new directions.
I keep hearing about The Artist, and I probably should see that one at some point. I know practically nothing about Atonement but I do have a copy that I’ve put off watching so that might be a good one for my Blind Spot next year. I only just started mine last month so I don’t have as many options but I do have a mental list of possible choices for next year. Perhaps you’d like to take a look at my current list and let me know what you think:
