Breaking Emotions: HATE and LOVE

Mettel Ray’s cool blogathon’s banner is on the right sidebar, if you want to know what’s going on – today’s the last day of entry, so you should really hurry, though. 😉 Before I get on with my last installment of LOVE and HATE in this blogathon, I just want to thank Mettel Ray for putting together such a fun blogathon – it’s been a blast and as my first longer blogathon, a great way to get me onto the blogathon train. I’m totally on board with Brittani about doing the same thing with TV show scenes, too! 😉

Fun fact: I actually love all these films.

rape scenes in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Do you even need to ask? That fucking sadistic pig and rapist.1

finding out about aunt Helen in The Perks of Being A Wallflower

I listened to the audiobook of this and loved it – but I didn’t grasp that aunt Helen was molesting Charlie from it. And when the realisation creeped in watching the film… aajajartkjdjjkljhgfdsfhjkl NONONONONO. Why. Why. WHY?

the hallucination in Gravity

THIS IS SO UNFAIR, was the only coherent thought in my head after it was made clear that their conversation was a hallucination. FUCK YOU CUARON.

opening scene of Star Trek Into Darkness

This was the first Star Trek film I ever saw and GOD, I loved it so much from the first scene on. It was such a perfect first scene: establishing what Star Trek is, what they do and all that served with thrill and mindblowing beauty. Dat planet.

the story in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I fell in love with this scene in 0.0001 seconds – I couldn’t ever have imagined that they create such a beautiful scene out of the Deathly Hallows story. Watson’s voice suits this so well, too. I’m so glad they rewarded this amazing series with a few gorgeous scenes, too.

punching Draco in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Best Potter film and however much I love Draco, this was the best scene ever. And probably the moment I realised how badass girls can be. I was nine when the film came out and I’d never even pondered if girls could be cool and strong, hahah. (I’m sorry for my outburst earlier, Cuaron…)

1 The image is from the Swedish version of the film, but either works because both are great and delivered this scene with equal disgust.

  1. And another good list. Great work!

  2. I haven’t seen The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo precisely because of the rape scene. The one in the novel was already terrifying, and I don’t want to relive the moment onscreen.

The hollows story was beautiful, easily one of my favorite scenes in the movie. Hermione punching Malfoy was priceless!

    • It’s pretty devastating – in both films. But I’ll suffer through it to see the rest, because these films are so damn great.

      So glad you agree! 🙂

  3. I know, right? Being with Clooney in tight space thingy and then it turns out to be a dream. That sucks.

    • I think I started crying when it happened. I didn’t even consider it not being real – because who the hell would do something like that with Clooney? Sucks indeed.

  4. Great list! I laughed so hard when Hermione punched Malfoy in the face! Good times. 😀

  5. Ahh, I love this list! I hated those scenes in DWTDT as well. I actually knew about them beforehand and fast forwarded through them because I am a gigantic wuss. I loved how they did that story in Deathly Hallows Part 1 as well, I never would’ve thought of that, and I certainly didn’t think of that when I was reading. You’ve got to love Hermione punching Malfoy. That almost makes me want to forgive what Cuaron did with Hermione in the rest of that movie.

    • I think the DH scene is so elegant! And well, the third film was kind of the point when book Hermione and film Hermione became two different characters, I think.

  6. Awesome list! I remember cheering on Hermione when she punched Malfoy. I probably will still do it if I saw it again :)That was a great moment.

  7. Oooh, great ones here Elina! I know I won’t be able to handle the scene in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Oooh I adore that animated scene in Deathly Hallows, it reminds me of the shadow puppet Wayang from my home country Indonesia, I think that’s where the inspiration came from 😀

  8. Great picks Elena! Your hate scenes are rightfully so hate-worth but I can’t hate Perks or Gravity. I swoon over your love choices, especially Harry Potter. Almost nothing compares to Hermione punching Draco, even though I can’t hate Draco. 😀

    • Oh, I love these films deeply, but I do also think a film needs to be really good to make you hate something in it so badly –
I usually just forget all about the bad films. 😀
