Game of Thrones spoilers below!

This is my 100th post. It was supposed to be really special and cool, but instead, I watched The Mountain and the Viper and after ten hours, I still find it difficult to breathe. So instead of bathing in the glory of putting out close to 40 reviews in my blogging times, and that you can now just type in filmsandcoke.com in your address bar to get here, I’ll instead share a few thoughts on Thrones and the films I’ve seen this weekend.

  • Dany sent Jorah away because he betrayed her (wow, drama!). I didn’t understand it really, and I’m never watching that fucking episode again, so that’s that, but it felt sad. Especially with this in mind.
  • Arya and the Hound finally made it, only to find out Lysa’s dead. That was a hilarious scene.
  • The Wildlings attacked and Ygritte spared Gilly with her baby, which was super lovely.
  • And then the world gets fucked in the ass. Sorry. I don’t think it’s possible to say this too harshly. Everybody’s sharing gifs of Cersei’s joy, but before that, I was so happy to see her disappointment when Oberyn got the upper hand.
  • I still cannot believe that ending happened. I’m glad I just watched Atonement, because now I can compare that twist to something. Beyond cruel. I hope someone skins the Mountain. That shithead.
  • I bet Tyrion’s going to kill Tywin and get away. If not, someone’s getting punched in the face.

  • Before all that happened and I was left to pick up pieces of my brain, I actually had a really nice weekend visiting a friend.
  • Inspired by Nostra’s iconic movie character relay, I got my friend and her little sister to watch E.T. with me. I’d never seen it before, but I really wanted to, and it was so great!
  • On Sunday morning, I got up at 12pm and was still the first one up, so I started watching Howl’s Moving Castle — something I’ve wanted to see for ages, and they had it! It was really, really great and Calcifer, the powerful fire demon pictured above, won my heart at once.
  • I’ve been watching a lot of films lately, films I never thought I’d get to: Mads Mikkelsen in The Royal Affair (really good!), Chaplin’s The Gold Rush (I think I like silent films…) and I’ll see A Single Man tomorrow. Because this Monday hasn’t been depressing enough.

+ the ten works of a master of raw
+ this is a blind spot for me, too, I promise I’ll fix it
+ the only Godzilla review you need to read
+ nostalgia: “ghosts are transparent”
+ what is better than feet — animated feet?
+ spectacular
+ introducing: David Fincher is a genius
+ where #10 could easily be #1 in another show
+ hold your horses (and your breath)

credit where it is due: first three pictures are from this hilarious Thrones recap, and the gifs are from Sati’s tumblr.

  1. Thanks for the link Elina! Definitely check out The Matrix; if you liked Inception, there are a lot interesting parallels.
Congrats on the domain change! 🙂

  3. You got a REAL website… congrats! 😉

  4. I’ve just finished watching that episode, man. I’m gobsmacked!! Just gobsmacked!!

  5. SO happy to here that you liked E.T. That will always be one of my favorite films. I absolutely adore it. And thanks so much for the link!

  6. Crazy wasn’t it?:D I actually watched the fight like 5 times already, it was just so well executed. Glad you liked my gifs!

  7. The speech about the beetle was so weird, wasn’t it? I got to watch the fight again … crazy ending!

  8. Omg those pictures are so accurate. When I read the book, that ending shocked me. You’d think I would no better by now, but nope. Seeing it actually played out in front of me was just as bad. Thank you for the link!

  9. Woohoo, filmsandcoke.com! I like it. Shall update my blogroll links. And thanks for linking my review! 🙂 I’m still getting over the episode as well. What a horrible way to go. Totally traumatic.

  10. Well wasn’t that episode somethin’? I had a feeling something like that would happen but then doubted myself as it went along and then BAM! It was the sound when his skull caved in that got me. I did think they spent a surprisingly short amount of time on the fight though.

    • Had it been any longer, it would’ve been even more painful, and I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have taken much more. I was confused about how long the episode had run before they got to the fight, too, though. It did very nicely to tune up the suspense, though, right?

  11. Elina your post speaks to me on so many levels! I feel the same way. Dany! Booo! Emilia! Boo! Mountain! Boo Hisssssss! This episode was beyond painful on so many levels.

    • Oh yes, I’m still not over it. I found out what happens to the Mountain, though, or at least I think I did, and I’m pleased. Can’t wait for the new episode!

  12. Thanks so much for the link, totally dug the way you presented it, too.

Sigh. This GoT thing has gotten out of hand. I really want to jump in, but I’m looking at like, thirty hours of content,,,which is suffocating. I mean, do you know how many shitty movies I could watch in that time?

    • You also have to add the inevitable amount of time you spend in shame for spending your time watching them, that’s like two or three episodes right there! In all seriousness, Sati won’t give you peace before you’re in it.

Just start with the first episode. You don’t have to see it 38 hours straight (yep! 38!) (I think you’ll want to, though, there are great boobs ahead…)

    • Just think of how many boobs there are in each hours.
      Unlimited boobs.

  13. Great post Elina! Seems that WTF moments are a given in GoT, but after reading Sati’s recap of the last ep, wow, that’s really shocking!!

  14. Haha I love the look on their faces. Just sad like they had seen the mountain do that before. Except Oberyns wife, she seemed quite shocked.

Howl’s Moving Castle is great 😀

Tell me, tell me, TELL ME
